Certificate II Security Operations

TC Mob now have qualified security officers! With Cert II in Security Operations, Jeffery, Deacon and mentor Josephine have successfully completed the training. The trio travelled to Darwin where they studied at Alana Kaye College. The guys enjoyed playing tourist around Darwin and took amazing pictures for all the families to see.

Australian Defence Force visits the Mob

The Australian Defence Force careers team recently visited the TC Mob to talk to young people about joining the Army, Navy and Airforce.

Certificate IV Work Health & Safety training in the Gold Coast!

Richelle & Josephine recently travelled to the Gold Coast and completed their Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety at Pinnacles Training! The course took place over 2 weeks.

“It was very intense, but I had Josephine who was an awesome mentor that helped me through it” – Richelle.

NDIS Review Team Visit

NDIS Review Team Visit

It was great to have the NDIS Review panel co-chair Professor Bruce Bonyhady AM and members Dr Stephen King, Ms Kirsten Deane OAM, Deputy Head of the NDIS Review Secretariat Mr James McIsaac, Secretariat Support Simon Chung, Lauren Gill and Daniel Franklin visit Tennant Creek and Ali Curung last week.

The Barkly region was one of the first remote NDIS trial sites in the Northern Territory when the scheme was first rolled out in 2013, so participants and their families had a lot of experience to share.

The Review Panel also held consultations with local organisations throughout the region.

The information provided to the Review Panel will be used to improve the design, operations and sustainability of the NDIS and build a more responsive, supportive and sustainable market and workforce.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to contribute. The final report is expected to be delivered to the Disability Reform Minister by the end of October 2023.

Books to Kids

BOOKS FOR KIDS

Thanks to the Robinson family from Queensland who donated six boxes of new children’s books to the Mob kids. Reading and sharing stories can help children get to know sounds, words and language. They can also spark a child’s imagination and help them learn how to concentrate and develop early literacy skills.

Alexander chose Bob the Builder as his first book and loved it when the main character ‘Muck’ sneezed ‘A-a-a-a-t choo!’. The Mob will be delivering the books to kids throughout the Barkly region. If you have children aged 4-12 years who would like some books to read at home give our Community Connectors a call on 0499 800 975 or drop into the Mob and collect some.

Mob Kids Cookbook

Over the past three months the Mob have been working with its youth to teach them about healthy eating, food preparation and trying new foods.

Teaching young people to cook gives them an opportunity to use their skills in reading, maths, problem solving and coordination and learn about being safe in the kitchen and when preparing food. It also give them a chance to enjoy a meal with their friends.

The kids recipes will be compiled into a Kids Cookbook which will be published in July 2023.

Defence Force visit the Mob

Defence Force Visit

It was great to have Flight Sergeant Scott McKenzie and Corporal Terri Ellis from the Defence Force visit the Mob to talk to our kids about the Navy Indigenous Development Program (NIDP) and the Army Indigenous Development Program (AIDP) . These programs run by the Navy and the Army help cultivate individual’s social skills, language, literacy and numeracy skills and leadership and confidence capabilities.

Both programs are predominantly for candidates who don’t meet the education criteria for joining ADF (Year 10 English & Maths) and upon successful completion they will receive a Cert II in Skills for Work & Study. A candidate would stay with likeminded people undergoing the same training together.

If a candidate is successful in completing the AIDP or the NIDP they will be eligible for direct entry to the Royal Australian Navy or the Army for a full time career.
